Senior Team Leader, Estuary and Catchment Science, Office of Environment and Heritage

Dr Peter Scanes leads a research team of scientists who have specialised in processes affecting estuary health.  This work has led to the development of a functional based typology for NSW estuaries, standardised assessment and reporting of estuary health and models that relate catchment nutrient export to estuary ecosystem function. His research work covers data on climate change and assessment of impact, factors affecting seagrass growth, estuarine foodwebs, sediment nutrient exchange and influences of nutrient enrichment on estuarine primary producers.
