Module-8

Knowledge gaps and recommendations for future research

Assessing the impacts of climate change in estuaries is complex and relies on appropriate data and knowledge sources. Consequently, it is critical to understand what is known, what remains unknown and what is the resulting level of uncertainty in different steps of the risk assessment.

Module-8 is a fact sheet that summarizes the knowledge and data gaps that were established in Modules 1-7. As these knowledge gaps represent limitations for completing a climate change risk assessment, recommendations for future research are focused on resolving those limitations.

Module-8 addresses the following questions.

  • What are the major knowledge and data gaps that presently limit the assessment of climate change risk in estuaries?
  • What are the levels of uncertainty in different steps of the risk assessment due to these knowledge gaps?
  • What are the immediate research and funding needs to address these limitations?
